Josef Brown was a screen writer on the Australian drama Neighbours (2016), where he’d played Matt Turner for over two years (2012-14). He played Charlie Redding in the GFO world premiere season of An Officer and a Gentleman (2012) and has appeared as Dale on Home and Away (2012), was Choreographer on the musical Every Single Saturday (2012) and was writer/producer on the seven-part webisode series, AtThe Fork (2012). In 2011 Josef appeared as Auctus in the popular U.STV series, Spartacus - Gods of the Arena and prior to this played Patrick throughout Season One of the Logie award winning ABC TV series Dance Academy.
Though a soloist with The Australian Ballet (1991-1996), a leading man with Sydney Dance Company (1997-2004) and Modern Dans Topluluguu in Turkey (1996-1997), Josef is perhaps best known for originating the role of Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing -The Classic Story on Stage (2004), for which he was awarded ‘Outstanding Performance in a Stage Musical’ in the Australian Dance Awards.
After completing the Australian tour Josef went on to open the London West End production - which broke pre-sale box office records - and played the role of Johnny Castle throughout the USA during its pre-Broadway tour.
In 2003 Josef travelled to Ramallah, Palestine as the recipient of a grant awarded by the Australia Council for the Arts. His lm-work Art, During Siege shot throughout Palestine was made into a short-form documentary, which first aired on ABCTV in August 2005.
Josef has been a choreographer, a member of the Dance Board for the NSW Ministry for the Arts, a well-respected teacher and coach and the founder of The Creative Core, arts masterclass program. He co- founded CINEMOVES - a forum for movement and dance on screen and has posed for the internationally released photographic book, Raw Moves, for the magazines, Black & White, NW, WHO, the cover of New Vegetarian, for the New York based photographer Lois Green eld Calendar and for Venice Magazine in Los Angeles.
